Belonging: An Annotated Reader is a tribute to the indelible thinking and cultural criticism of bell hooks. It features a curated selection of essays from Beloning: A Culture of Place, the original compilation published in 2009. This 200-page rendition includes companion essays and poetry by contemporary African-American writers—similarly medidating on home and place-making. The primary text is annotated by words and notationions marking the birthplaces of individuals referenced throughout the text. All photographs were taken by Dawoud Bey and Janna Ireland.
